This is an index of the document files available through FACTNet's
electronic library on issues of coercive mind control.

FACTNet is a nonprofit electronic lending library still it its testing
phase. Until we can afford a wider bandwidth connection to the Internet,
and other facilities to support a telnet client, you will have to call us
direct at (303) 530-1942. There are thousands of BBS systems in the US
and around the world and if you are familiar with any of them, FACTNet
should be no problem. If you are familiar only with UNIX systems such as
the Internet, you will have to relearn some old habits.
How to use this index:
1. Read this index off line and/or download it to your word
processor and search the key words you are interested in.
2. To connect to FACTNet, call 1-303-530-1942 in the United States then
follow the instructions on your screen. If you have never logged on
before, you will be asked one time only to complete a lengthy on-line
FactNet electronic library card holders agreement.
3. The BBS offers a text search engine to help you find subjects of
interest. It is accessed by a menu option called "database query."
While you can use any communications software to call the BBS, the
"database query" feature requires that you call with communications
software that supports "doorway mode," such as recent versions of Telix
or Ripterm -- both of which can be downloaded from FACTNet. An on-line
bulletin explains "doorway mode."
4. Many file area directories list a .ZIP file of all .TXT files in that
directory. .ZIP files provide a fast and easy way to obtain many files
quickly. Be sure to check for files posted since the .ZIP file was last
updated.
5. Do not rely on directory groupings to contain all relevant material.
Many files had not been properly categorized and the confusion was
exascerbated by arbitrary changes in late 1994. The file you want could
be ANYWHERE. In general, the system is by SOURCE such as professional
journals, media articles, legal briefs or affidavits, etc.
The "indexes" directories should (but do not) contiain crossreference
lists by topic (such as child abuse, celebrities, satanism, etc.) to
provide a "roadmap" of the system. If you locate files on a topic of
interest to you, please list them and upload the list to us for our
"indexes" directory in the appropriate conference.

This is the appearance of a directory listing. "Filename" is an arbitrary
name which is what you download. "Size" will give you an idea of how long
it will take to download. "Date" is when it was put on the FACTNet system
and has no other meaning. "Description" is what you should look at.
All documents are in a specific "conference" which you must join before you
will have access to them. You are in the "main board" conference when you
first log on. Most files are in the "main board" conference (#0) or the
"scientology" conference (#16). The listings in this index look like they
are by conference but cross-postings confuse this. If #0 doesn't work,
try #16 and vice versa. The American Family Foundation (AFF) files are in
conference #73.
When downloading a fiile you do NOT specify a path (such as \PCB\ + some
other text) but only the filename and extension. To get the right path you
must have joined the proper conference.
You can download a file from ANY "File List Command?" prompt as long
as you are in the correct CONFERENCE and you know the file's name. You
can find a "File List Command?" prompt at the end of ANY directory listing.
Find the file(s) you want in the Index, logon to the BBS, change into
the relevant CONFERENCE (if you aren't already there), choose FILES, and
choose any directory. When you reach the end of the directory listing,
you will see a "File List Command?" prompt. Press D for download.
